Baby it’s cold outside…
As the weather starts to chill, I find myself reaching for blanket on the couch. Ours are a bit beat up from dogs and my kids’ friends that use our sofa as a crash pad. It’s defintely time for a refresh and this was an inexpensive replacement (20% OFF!) that will sustain multiple washings:
I heart coffee
As much as I hate to admit it, we’re coffee snobs in this household. For my husband’s 50 birthday I bought him a fancy coffee maker. We absolutely love our Breville and since I spied it on sale, I wanted to share with you. It’s not cheap, but I do think it’s a worthwhile luxury if your savor that morning cuppa. We’ve been enjoying the machine for 3 years now so my cost per cup is down to $0.65. For us, it was worth the investment. Check it out:
Pasta perfection
And finally, the KitchenAid pasta extruder is on sale. I’m making this purchase today. I use the pasta noodle attachment for making sheets of pasta. If a lasagne is on the menu, it’s perfect. But if everyone wants noodles, it’s a time consuming project.
If you’ve never made pasta, it’s easier than you think. The basic recipe is 2 1/3 cups of flour to 4 eggs. Depending on the humidity in your kitchen, you may need to adjust. Start with a good flour – the italians call it dopio zero. If you’re gluten sensitive like I am, you may find that using imported flour alleviates a lot of your symptoms. Make a cone of flour with a whole in the middle and add your eggs one at a time. Mix in a little flour until sitcky and add the next egg. I cheat and use the dough hook on my KitchenAid. Let your dough sit a half hour, then you’re ready to make any kind of noodle you like.
